HOUSING The Practice has always been heavily involved in housing provision, from rented accommodation and social / affordable housing to private “one-off” houses. The Practice and Robin Miller in particular, were active in promoting the idea of Co-ownership Housing Societies in the 1960’s and 1970’s. The Practice has been involved in the design of some sixteen Co-ownership Housing Society or Housing Association Projects, providing well over 700 flats and houses for rent. The Practice continues to provide advice on maintenance and capital works to many of the Co-ownership Housing Societies on a consultancy basis to the present day. Tony Richardson is an active committee member of the Rocket Housing Society which manages nine Co-ownership Housing Societies throughout the North-East. We are currently working closely with Cleveland Housing Trust (CHT), a registered housing charity based in Stockton, to provide affordable rented and shared-ownersip housing on several sites throughout the Teesside area. We have designed new office accommodation for them and carried out feasibility studies on several potential new-build housing sites. In 2005 we successfully completed a scheme of 16 2-bedroom flats for CHT at a site in Redcar. All of the flats were sold on shared-ownership principles.
We have recently completed a further 20 one and two bedroom flats for rent on existing sites owned by CHT in the Stockton area and are working on two new sites in Middlesbrough. The Practice undertakes work for private developers as well as for individual householders. In 2006-8 we completed a scheme for the re-development of a derelict brown field site in Stockton for a private developer, creating 22 mixed flats and loft-style appartments. At around the same time we completed a project for Cambridge Court Developments of 84 flats on another derelict brown field site at Tindale Crescent, Bishop Auckland, helping to re-generate this run-down part of the town.
